The Fishermen’s Memorial was conceived in November 1976 after the loss of the F/V PATRICIA MARIE, which claimed the lives of seven Provincetown men. This tragedy deeply impacted the community, leading to the creation of the Fishermen’s Memorial Foundation in August 2023.

The foundation aims to honor and preserve the fishing heritage of Provincetown and Truro with a statue listing the names of those lost.

The Fishermen’s Memorial Foundation has contracted Brodin Studios, Inc. of Kimball, Minnesota to construct the Fishermen’s Memorial which will stand at the foot of MacMillan Pier in Provincetown. The final sculpture will capture the dignity, sorrow, and hope tied to the legacy of these men, women, and children that perished at sea.

We feel an empty dory atop a rolling wave best symbolizes those lost at sea. Using advanced 3D scanning technology, the final bronze sculpture will be an exact replica of the Grand Banks dory, a historic boat used by Cape Codders for over two hundred years.
